HCRN is set to begin recovery work in a third California location.  Greenville is a small mountain community in Plumas County that was devastated by the Dixie Fire in 2021.  HCRN has been working with local community leaders and other long-term recovery experts to help navigate the recovery work in the year since the fire.  HCRN has received a grant to begin the rebuilding process by preparing volunteer housing from the Dixie Fire Funders Roundtable.  Sixteen organizations make up the funding for the Roundtable. The two largest funds, The Almanor Foundation and the Dixie Fire Collaborative are both funds held at the North Valley Community Foundation.

In cooperation with the Dixie Fire Collaborative and Copper Canyon Camp, HCRN will be upgrading cabins, bathrooms and an outdoor dining area to provide year-round housing for volunteers and construction workers.  A $269,000 grant from the North Valley Community Foundation will provide salary and equipment for the first year of the project.  Providing adequate housing for volunteers is the first step in beginning a volunteer rebuild program for recovery.  In 2021, HCRN distributed about $1.5 million worth of supplies to evacuees as part of our immediate assistance project.  The Dixie Fire burned more than 1 million acres over the course of three months.

Check out the NVCF newsletter for more info on this grant and all the other work they are doing to get fire survivors home!
