If you have a hard time looking at a floor plan and imagining what the house will look like, you are not alone. The experience of seeing a home under construction with the interior walls in place and the space taking shape makes a big difference in understanding the construction work. Hope Crisis Response Network opened up two of our home rebuilding projects in Altadena recently, inviting funders, disaster case managers and potential clients to walk through the home and look at the construction work.

The houses are only about 50% completed, but it offered an opportunity to see the space in person. The project on Mendocino Street has made a great deal of progress since our homeowner first saw the work begin. She was excited to see security fence and a portable bathroom on site. Now she can stand at her front door, look around her living room area and see the house taking shape.

The open house showed visitors the size of the home. Our staff explained the different choices available to homeowners; how they select cabinets in five color options for the kitchen and bathrooms, Quartzite countertops and LVP flooring for the home.  Homeowners also choose the exterior color of the house. All items that personalize the home to their preferences.

During the Open House, visitors remarked about the size of the front porch, the variety of options available and the construction of the home.

Our visitors enjoyed an ice cream treat as part of the visit and walked away with a clearer picture of what is included in a home built by Hope Crisis Response Network.

Some members of the local community have the misconception that a home from one of the nonprofit builders that utilizes volunteers is a lower quality build, but a walk through the product can dispel some of those thoughts.
