You lost your home in a disaster. Your home insurance won’t cover the full cost of rebuilding. You don’t know what to do so you can stay in your community.

HCRN rebuilds for those who couldn’t do so by themselves. We build for the uninsured, the under-insured and vulnerable populations who just want to come home. There’s a lot that goes into qualifying homeowners for this program, but at the end of the day we want to get people back on their property and sleeping in their own beds.

So how does HCRN rebuild for disaster survivors?

We rely on Disaster Case Managers who do the leg work of serving people experiencing some of the toughest days of their lives. They collect information from the disaster survivor and present them with options, including our rebuilding program. Once their rebuilding project is fully funded (through Unmet Needs Committee funding, FEMA funds, and if they had any insurance payouts directed towards home rebuilding), HCRN begins construction.

HCRN recruits teams of volunteers to serve for a week at a time to be our construction labor force. These amazing individuals give their time and talents to help strangers come home. We wouldn’t be able to complete this important work without our volunteers. From framing a home, all the way through to installing appliances, our volunteers get to be most homeowner’s favorite part of the rebuilding process. Not only are they labor, volunteers forge connections with disaster survivors and allow them to process trauma and recover emotionally and spiritually from their loss.

HCRN is proud to be the only volunteer organization rebuilding full-time in California. It can be difficult, but it’s some of the most rewarding work out there.
