It’s been nearly two months since two monstrous wildfires broke out in Los Angeles County and destroyed nearly 16,000 structures. The community immediately jumped into action and has been doing what they can to help their neighbors. HCRN was proud to partner with so many national, state and local agencies to make the Wildfires Resource Hub a resounding success and provide financial and material assistance to fire survivors. Churches have been holding distributions, local clubs have been hosting events for their members, and everyone just wants to know what they can do to help.

What HCRN is doing to help is two fold. Right now, we’re working to contact people whose homes survived the fires, but they need some help cleaning up and making their homes safe to live in again. The smoke and ash from all of the destroyed structures was filled with dangerous toxins that, left sit in a home, can cause health concerns down the road. We want to bring in teams of volunteers to assist in this interior cleaning and keep everyone safe.

Secondly, we want to help with repairs to homes. We’re seeking out people whose insurance isn’t going to cover repairs necessary to make their home safe and sanitary. Our focus will be on things like burned roofs, broken windows and damaged siding. We can’t fix every problem, but we want to help get people back in their homes as soon as we can.
We need local volunteers who can come alongside us and do this work! Does that sound like something you or your organization might be interested in? Then you can get in contact with us using our simple contact form on our volunteer page here.
In this early phase of recovery, we still expect there to be a high need for assistance. Indications show a high level of uninsured rates and most likely under-insured properties. We’ll be establishing a rebuilding program following this repair and cleanup phase, and we’ll have more info about that in the coming months. Let’s get people home!
