Northern California will be experiencing even more precipitation today.

This comes just days after a levee broke south of Santa Cruz and flooded Pajaro, California and Monterey County.

A previous set of winter storms garnered a federal disaster declaration. HCRN will continue to work closely in the response to these new disasters, as well as the damage caused by the January storms. We are working with local churches in Santa Cruz to facilitate teams of volunteers to assist in helping survivors repair damage done from previous flooding events. This same plan will likely be used for this new round of flooding.

This week, we will be completing damage assessments in Monterey County and working with the State of California and local organizations to respond effectively and to work for the recovery of flooding survivors.

So much of HCRN’s work is being a calm voice amidst the chaos in a disaster’s aftermath. Our knowledge and mentorship allows communities to plan, respond and recover. These early days of mentoring and creating collaborations is vitally important for the long-term recovery of a community. Planning cannot be reactive, it must be intentional.

Response cannot be another disaster within a disaster. That’s why HCRN is working to fund our Disaster Resource Village for 2023. HCRN is responding to these disasters, but we need your help to be ready for the next one. You can donate today and change disaster response for tomorrow.
