Family Night is back!

What’s family night? It’s a night to have volunteers, homeowners and community partners all come together and share about disaster recovery. We share a meal, share about the week, share about the recovery process so far in the community. It’s a chance to really celebrate accomplishments.

Each week we have a team in camp, we ask our volunteers to invite the homeowner they’re serving to come share a meal. Everyone has a chance to share how the week has impacted them, or how they’ve been able to help. It’s our favorite night, because it gives the volunteers and community partners a chance to really interact with our clients.

This week, our first week long team arrived from Kelsey Creek in Washington. They assisted on a smoke remediation project, cleaning the hard surfaces in a home to make it safe and sanitary again. They also helped repaint the exterior of a home that was right on the fire line, and because firefighters saved their home, the rest of that neighborhood survived. Volunteers also stripped the garage roof which was damaged by air drops to fight the fire. The volunteers weren’t able to re-shingle this week, but it’s all ready for next week’s team!

While sharing, Stephanie, one of our volunteers, talked about how she grew up in California and in high school competed in athletics in the area where the Eaton Fire burned through. “When I saw the news coverage in Seattle, I just started praying for you all. I said, ‘Lord if there’s a way to help, I want to go.’” As the church administrator, a request to put out information about a volunteer trip came across her desk to serve in Altadena. She immediately scheduled to be off that week so she could make an impact.

We’re so happy to be back with Family Nights, and we can’t wait to share more stories of homeowners, volunteers and community recovery with you all!
