The California VOAD partners will host a series of free one day trainings across Northern California in November for nonprofit leaders and organizations involved in disaster preparedness, response and recovery.  California Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is comprised of non-governmental organizations that organize and help survivors on the worst day of their lives and are the backbone of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery in the State of California.  These trainings are part of their mission of cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration.

Keynote Speaker will be Aaron Titus, Crisis Cleanup, author of “How to Prepare for Anything.” He is a nationally recognized expert on preparation and disaster volunteerism and the creator of a collaborative platform that has mobilized volunteers in more than 250 disasters.  Sessions will also include speakers from the state office of CalOES and leaders of disaster response organizations within the state.

California VOAD chair Kevin Cox said, “This conference provides up to date training on processes and resources that are available to communities in the event of a disaster.  Helping our local service providers stay up to date and connect with regional and state disaster leaders is an important connection prior to a disaster.  We want to provide opportunities for organizations to grow their capacity to serve in difficult times.”

The trainings are as follows:

November 4 at the Tzu Chi Foundation, San Jose

November 6 at The Salvation Army, Sacramento

November 8 at Northern Valley Catholic Social Services, Redding

Each conference day will be from 10 AM to 6 PM and will focus on disaster response and recovery best practices and offer valuable opportunities for training, discussion and networking.

Registration is free and available here.  A certificate of completion will be provided for participants.

This event is sponsored by the United Way of Northern California, CalOES and Listos.
