April Fool’s day was no joke this year. HCRN and our partners in Pajaro, California provided a free community breakfast on Saturday April 1. This community was devastated after a levee broke and flooded this agricultural community, leaving some homes with 3 feet of water inside.

HCRN is SO  thankful to so many churches who provided financially and with volunteers to make this breakfast possible. Thank you to Refuge Bible Church, Compass Church, Westgate and Bayside Churches and First Baptist Church Salinas for cooking a community breakfast for over 500 people impacted by this flooding.

What makes a great breakfast?  Awesome, welcoming volunteers who cook for over 3 hours straight, serve the guests with a smile and of course the food!  The breakfast included 2,700 pancakes, 1,500 sausages, a whole lot of bananas and over 50 gallons of coffee, orange juice and water.

“This is what it looks like to truly care about your community. The encouragement this breakfast gave, can be summarized by a guest named Yolanda, who told me that all of the trauma that the flood has caused her and her children, has made it very difficult for her to perform basic daily responsibilities. Being able for her family to come and be served food, gives her hope and made her children smile.” -Jim McKee, HCRN CFO
