Hope Crisis Response Network is installing a new roof for Betty Comas, a senior and recent widow wh has been displaced since a fire damaged her Altadena home. Although firefighters were able to save the structure, Betty has been unable to return due to a lack of insurance funds and extensive needed repairs.

Betty’s story is one of many. As a recently widowed senior, she’s faced an uphill battle to return home. “Recovery isn’t just about repairing homes, it’s about restoring lives and bringing hope back to families who thought they had lost everything,” said Kevin Cox, Founder of Hope Crisis Response Network. “We’re honored to walk alongside this community, and we’re committed to making sure survivors don’t just return home, but return stronger.”
This project is supported by the American Red Cross as part of its commitment to long-term wildfire recovery in the region. “Our partnership with Hope Crisis Response Network extends beyond this disaster, as we have responded to many disasters side-by-side over the years,” said Amanda Ree, Director for Wildfire Long-Term Recovery at the American Red Cross. “We are proud to join them today to celebrate this milestone for Betty, and by extension, for what it represents for all Eaton Fire survivors who will be returning home thanks to their hard work in the coming weeks and months.”

We can’t do this work without our partners, like the American Red Cross, and our supporters, like you! This support has allowed us to see over 100 houses cleaned and repaired in LA County. Our smoke remediation and repair work has been available to those who were uninsured or under-insured at the time of the fires and who couldn’t afford the inflated costs from traditional contractors.
