Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
During the Wildfire Resource Hub this week in Pasadena, more than 40 nonprofit agencies came together to provide gift cards, financial resources and goods like food, cleaning supplies, kids toys, hot meals, medical care and so much more. Organized by California VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and hosted by Kaiser Permanente, the Hub served about 10,000 households over a six-day period. Hope Crisis Response Network was the lead nonprofit for the event, but the hard work from all the Executive team from California VOAD, representing 12 different organizations made this possible.

First thank you to our hundreds of volunteers. Each day over 400 volunteers handed out supplies, directed traffic, delivered meals and just served the LA residents who were affected by the fires. Without their contribution of time and compassion, this event would not have happened.
For every service provider, nonprofits, church organizations, social service agencies, your collective power to be on the ground helping these families and individuals is a testament to the greater impact that we can have when we work together.
For our donors, your financial gifts that put us on the ground in the disaster area coordinating events like these, change individuals and the community! You are amazing!
Thank you to Knott’s Berry Farm for having Snoopy come to the Resource Hub to bring a smile to everyone’s face!
To those who lost so much in these fires: we are broken hearted over your losses, but each little step is a step forward. We will continue to be here to serve.
The great researcher Brene Brown, said that despair is an emotion linked to sadness and grief. But Hope is not an emotion, it is a cognitive behavior, a belief that a person can take a step forward toward a goal. This event offered fire survivors a means to have Hope again.

From Melissa Reece, California VOAD Executive Committee member via Facebook:
My team with California VOAD was able to bring together over 40 nonprofits for the week to provide millions of dollars to help with immediate needs for the LA wildfire impacted households. In addition to money, we were able to get childcare, music, massage and sound baths, cleanup kits and food, therapy dogs and emotional spiritual care, Snoopy came to visit every day, and we brought comfort and healing to so many. This helped the short-term needs, but the people served were also signed up to receive long term help and follow up. Although we were only able to help a few thousand out of the nearly 15 thousand who came for help during the week, our small executive team of disaster experts are committed to working hard over the long haul to get everyone help.
