Montgomery: A Community Pulling Together

Montgomery, Indiana: Severe storms tore through Daviess County on November 15, causing widespread destruction in the Amish community. Tornado Montgomery IndianaMore than 160 families have been seriously impacted by the storms. Thirty-five homes suffered serious damage or complete destruction and the Amish families also lost barns, storage sheds, livestock and farm equipment. In cooperation with Mennonite Disaster Service, Hope Crisis Response Network is coordinating the clean-up and response.

Volunteers are needed for debris removal and general clean-up. Some clean-up equipment is available on site, but workers are encouraged to bring shovels, rakes, chainsaws, gloves and other general clean-up supplies.
The volunteer center is located at Gasthof Amish Village, in the Der Stall, which is located on CR 650 East just north of US 50 near Montgomery.

Volunteers will be sent out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday from 7am through 4pm the week of Thanksgiving.

Financial donations and material supplies can be brought directly to the Gasthof volunteer center. Hoosiers can also make donations at several local banks directly to the Hoosier Disaster Relief Fund, a state-wide fund that provides direct assistance to disaster victims.

Contributions can be made at Old National and National City Banks statewide.

Hope Crisis Response Network is a non-profit organization that provides disaster relief from the initial clean-up and continues through the entire re-building process. HCRN is also coordinating the volunteer effort in Evansville for the tornadoes that swept through November 6. The state-wide volunteer network of thousands has been mobilized again to respond to the devastation and loss.
