Recovering from Hurricane Katrina
Sept 5, 2005 Message from the lines...
What an incredible turnout we have seen in the past week. Here is what has unfolded in the past couple of days:
- We have had over 25,000 page views.
- More than 1,000 volunteers have signed up
- Team of 25 doctors and nurses deployed Sunday morning to Louisiana with 1 day notice
- Team sent this morning at 4:00am to Mobile, Alabama
- Medical team of 40 scheduled to leave by bus tomorrow AM to reach Baton Rouge, LA.
- Resources received: fueled jets, helicopter, trucks, donations and volunteer labor.
- Many more connections, resources and behind-the-scenes planning
The photo above shows our team of doctors and nurses flying out Sunday morning to Louisiana.
A HUGE thank you goes out to Republic Air of Indianapolis for their generosity.
Republic Air was one of the first corporations to graciously contribute to the recovery efforts in the South.
They have provided a jet, pilots, and any needed fuel that allows us to fly out medical personnel and fly refugees back to Indiana.
Without their support, we would not have had medical personnel on the ground so quickly.
Thank you to Pastor Jim Brown of Grace Community Church.
A team of 17 volunteers from Grace Community Church left at 4:00am this morning for the 14 hour drive to Mobile, Alabama.
We will update with news and photos as they become available.
We have a need for NURSES to work on 7 day trips.
We deploy every week and will continue to do so for at least the next 2 months.
If you have a desire to donate/volunteer/help in any capacity, please do not hesitate to contact us.
