HCRN's leader, Kevin Cox, had spoken directly with the White House regarding volunteerism and the volunteer recognition program.
Kevin told the White House that Ken Wetzel really stood out as a very giving individual and went above and beyond what was ever asked of him.
The White House then did some checking and found out that Ken Wetzel was indeed as wonderful and outstanding as they were told. They had planned on President Bush presenting the President's Volunteer Service Award directly to Ken as a sincere act of gratitude to Mr Wetzel.
While President Bush did not make it to the camp, Ken and Dawn were able to meet him at Airforce One. Afterword, Ken and his family returned to Hope City to meet with HCRN Board members, friends, volunteers and media.
