Hope City Update – April 26, 2007

Despite storms pounding the south this week, the volunteers at Hope City have had a great week and have accomplished a great deal. The team is in from The Chapel in Fort Wayne. The big news: Ella Quinn walked through her new home for the first time this week.

The team installed the shingles on Monday and then they installed steps into the house. Those steps turned into a neighborhood event. Monte Brenneman, camp director, said the entire neighborhood turned out Wednesday afternoon to look at Ella's house. He described it as a block party and said one neighbor even brought ribs to share with the team. If you haven't worked at Ella's house yet, her home required a 6' foundation to raise it to safe levels, so the crews have been working on scaffolds with about 14' to the eaves on this one story home. Ella climbed the steps into her new home, but says she'll be thankful for the ramp, which will be installed later.

The team is now framing for the interior walls. Team members also wrapped up the drywall project at Shelby Townsend's home. Other volunteers wrapped up work at Karen Wright's and at Ruby Grantham's homes.

Progress is also moving along on the Brenneman home at Hope City.
Two friends spent time finishing the electrical work, tracing wires, installing lights and re-doing outlets and switches. Work is wrapping up on the sub-floor. Two more rooms need drywall and paint.

Staff Updates: Monte Brenneman
heads back to Indiana this weekend and will spend a week moving the family to Mississippi. Their "new" home (a renovated double-wide) may not be quite finished, but he says they are very excited about settling in at Hope City. Pray for Monte and Kim as they wrap up their Indiana responsibilities. But praise God, Monte said, he's never had a job that he loved like working at Hope City.

Kevin Moss is connecting with Missionary Church leaders in Michigan this week. He's at his second district conference in as many weeks. The visit last week in Ohio went very well. Kevin's back continues to improve. He will head back to Hope City in May after a brief visit next week with his son in Carolina.

Kevin Cox spoke this week at a physicians meeting in Indianapolis as HCRN begins to plan medical response for future disasters. He heads down to Hope City this weekend. Buddy Balogh has been keeping busy in camp this week as well.

Bethel College students are wrapping up their finals this week and will head south to be in camp next week.

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:1-2

Have a great week!
